NBA 2K17 MyTeam Wishlist

Since the dawn of MyTeam, I think it’s fair to say that the game mode has

progressively gotten better and better; although, most MyTeam fans would rather look

at what the mode doesn’t have rather than how much it has improved in it’s short

lifespan. Not to say that the mode couldn’t do with (a lot) more content, but at the very

least look at how far it’s come. And while the developers have made their biggest effort

of any 2K updating the mode this year, they still haven’t even scratched the surface of

how much potential MyTeam has.

Road To The Playoffs

Let’s be real, this quickly became the most repetitive and bland form of online play in

MyTeam. It’s disappointing to say that the main way to play the mode has been the

exact same since it was created. What’s more disappointing is that extensions and

suggestions to prolong the life of RTTP have been on countless 2K wishlists every year –

but to no avail. The ideas that people have had for this sub-mode range from more

player rewards, equalized team matchmaking, even actually making the playoffs and

playing for rings for your franchise. But instead of asking for all that, the simplest and

most effective request that could be made is for MT rewards. The new big thing in 2K

this year was the buying and selling of MT, popular topic in the FIFA and Madden

communities as well. But if there were ways to make more of it by actually playing the

game, maybe it would discourage people from having to buy in-game currency.

Repeatable seeds with MT rewards, simple and clean. Because if you’re a MyTeam

player, what’s the biggest knock on RTTP? What to do after you finish. Maybe a sizeable

amount of MT each time you beat a seed would entice people to embrace the challenge

of beating that cheese multiple times to build the team of their dreams rather than

buying it. A win/loss leaderboard and some more pack/player rewards for beating each

seed don’t sound too bad either.

Challenges

I don’t think many MyTeam players did more than just the Diamond Kareem challenges

this year. This year, almost all challenges were pointless. In 2K15, they at least had some

worth to finish for a few good player rewards to improve your team, or sell and buy

someone you actually want to use. Why they deviated from that for the entirety of 2K16,

we may never know. Other than the almost as bad as Andre Roberson player rewards in

the Road To Kareem challenge series, the only worthwhile player you could have earned

was Kareem himself. And even that took almost until the end of the 2K year. What would

be so wrong with weekly challenges releasing popular players as the year goes on? It

took up until 2 weeks ago for the best version of Jason ‘White Chocolate’ Williams to be

released. If he was a challenge reward at some point this year, he may have been the

best one not named Lew Alcindor (Kareem Abdul-Jabbar). We’re not asking to be able to

make a super team with weekly challenges, but at least give us some incentive to

actually want to finish them. After all, one of the biggest knocks on MyTeam earlier this

year was the release rate of content; this could help remedy that.

Tournaments

This isn’t actually a mode of play in MyTeam, but I’m sure fans wish it was; yet another

thing that was being done right in previous 2Ks but only to be discontinued. Does

anyone who played MyTeam in 2K14 remember the cheese pizza, sapphire Scottie

Pippen online tournament? Possibly one of the most stressful and fun things ever to

happen to the mode. At the same time, it brought a whole new level of competition to

playing with your ultimate team. When you saw someone with the player reward of that

tournament, you prepared yourself for the rage you were about to go through.

Tournaments in MyTeam wouldn’t just give the community more ways to play, but it

would give them a greater sense of competition to beat out everyone else for that rare

player card that everyone wants. This could also be another way to earn more MT and

who doesn’t want that?

NBA 2K17 to Feature Face Scan App, Signature Animations, Timed Locker Codes

The season finale of NBA 2KTV has arrived, along with a number of small tidbits of information regarding what we’re going to see leading into the next installment of NBA 2K. As you’d probably expect, there isn’t a lot of big news, but they did reveal some cool additions to NBA 2K17.

There are a lot of jokes in there, but some of the news we got includes yeezys, timed locker codes, a face scan app, and some signature animations. In fact, signature animations might be one of the biggest things talked about in the video aside from the often requested face scanning app, as they seem to be adding a substantial number of them this time around.

Well, that’s about it. You can check out the video up top if you haven’t seen it in-game yet. Are you excited for some of these new features? Let us know in the comments and be sure to stay tuned to SGO for more NBA 2K news!

E3 2016: What Sports Games Will We See at E3?

We’re just under a week away from E3, and we figured now would be better than ever to discuss what we’d like to see going into the trade show. Last year we talked about the sports games we expected to see at E3, and this year we’re going to do the same.

So, what games will we see at E3? Do keep in mind that, as far as we can tell, some of these may not be officially confirmed for the show this year! This list should be considered speculative as a result.

Madden

e3 2016 maddenMadden is a sports gaming staple, and one of the big pillars for EA Sports. Since EA has already started talking about some of the new features we’ll see in the game, and since EA is showing the game off at EA Play, it’s safe to say that we’ll hear more about it during their press conference this year.

As to what news we’ll get on the franchise? Only time will tell. Hopefully we’ll hear something about new game modes, but until then, you can check out our article addressing your top 10 questions on Madden 17 to get up to speed on what we know so far about the game.

We’ll be checking out the game at EA play, so we’ll have more coverage on the game for you next week!

FIFA

e3 2016 fifaLike Madden, FIFA is often considered to be one of the big EA Sports titles, with a major presence at E3 every year. The game has been confirmed for EA Play, so it’s safe to say we’ll hear more about it in Los Angeles next week.

With PES getting the jump on the franchise by talking about their game earlier, I’d expect to see EA make a big FIFA reveal during their press conference. Will that include the cover athlete for the game? I’d hope so.

Game Informer also reports that the game will be using the Frostbite engine, as the first of many EA Sports franchises to use the engine moving forward. If this is true, we’ll probably get confirmation at E3.

NHL

e3 2016 nhlUnfortunately, the cover reveal for NHL 17 has already been spoken for. Rather than reveal the cover during E3, the winner of the NHL 17 cover vote will be announced during at the NHL Awards in Las Vegas on June 22.

There’s still a lot to talk about, but now that we know the first trailer for the game will also be featured at that event, it’s hard to see a lot of new information being presented. The game will be at EA Play, though, so you can expect to see more of the game then.

PGA Tour

e3 2016 pga tourLast year marked the first time that Rory McIlroy took over as the namesake athlete for EA’s long running PGA Tour franchise. It’s a bit odd that we haven’t seen any information on another installment, since the franchise has typically seen a release window between March and July.

With June underway and E3 coming up, and with no word on a new PGA Tour, it seems like the franchise could be another no-show in 2016. If we don’t hear about the game at E3, I’m not sure we’ll get a release this year. Unfortunately, all signs point to this one being shelved again, at least for 2016.

NBA LIVE

e3 2016 nba liveWe already know that NBA LIVE is getting pushed back into 2017, making it unlikely that we’ll see the game at E3, but I wouldn’t be surprised to see EA talk about the delay and what they hope to achieve by delivering the game later than usual.

With the fierce competition of the much-favored NBA 2K, I think most people would agree that NBA LIVE could use a break. Still, it’d be great to hear just what EA has planned to make the game more competitive next year.

NBA 2K

e3 2016 nba 2kWe’ve seen that Kobe Bryant will be getting his own special version of the game called “Legend Edition”, but we haven’t seen much of the game itself. Based on last year, NBA 2K likely won’t be making much of an appearance at E3 if it makes one at all.

We already got a number of big reveals at the Road to the Finals, where we learned that Paul George would be the cover athlete, along with the news of a September 20 release date and a return of the Early Tip-Off Weekend.

With 2K16 featuring a number of issues, prompting the community to band together to see them fixed, hopefully 2K can deliver a much more solid product for the 2017 season.

PES

e3 2016 pesPES 2017 is well on the way, and as our favorite soccer game in 2015, you can bet we’re excited to get our hands on the latest iteration of the franchise. Thankfully, the game is confirmed for E3, so we’ll be seeing a lot of it next week.

We’ve got plans to check out the game, you can expect to see more coverage on it soon!

We’ll be returning to E3 again next week to bring you coverage straight from the show. Are there any sports games you’d like to see this year? Let us know in the comments or on social media, and as always, stay tuned to SGO for the latest news on your favorite sports games!

Paul George Might Be the NBA 2K17 Cover Athlete

Well, it looks like we have a good idea as to who might be appearing on the cover of NBA 2K17 when it releases this fall, thanks to a slip-up from Sony on their PlayStation Store Update page.

According to ExtremeGamer on twitter, Sony briefly displayed pre-orders for NBA 2K17, including one for the standard edition whose cover athlete has yet to be revealed. The man on the cover appears to be Paul George.

https://twitter.com/ExtremeGamer/status/737761287770243072

We’ll have official confirmation tomorrow, when the cover athlete for the game is official announced at the NBA 2K16 Road to the Finals championship (we’ll be there to bring you coverage of the event), but for now, it seems pretty likely that Paul George will be making the cover.

Interestingly, he can also be spotted wearing the USA team’s jersey in the background, which means we might see the Olympics make some sort of appearance.

It seems that it’s become commonplace for retailers to leak information nowadays, with Madden 17 having a similar hiccup earlier this year thanks to a leak from the Xbox Store, which pointed to Rob Gronkowski as the cover athlete. That leak was later confirmed, when SportsCenter revealed that Rob Gronkowsi would indeed be gracing the cover of Madden 17.

Regardless as to whether or not this leak holds up, are you excited at the prospect of Paul George potentially landing the cover spot? If not, who would you prefer? Let us know in the comments, and as always, stay tuned to SGO for the latest NBA 2K17 news.

NBA 2K17 Gameplay Wishlist

On a year by year basis, the NBA 2K franchise has reached a level of popularity that extends further than just the original diehard basketball fans of suburbs and hoods across the country. With that being said, one would assume that as the game’s community grows and improves, so would the product itself. Not to say that their most recent game (NBA 2K16) was bad, but one would hope that every year a new game is released, it would be undoubtedly better than its predecessor. The amount of times I personally cursed this game for being fake, asking myself why I still play the damn thing, and swearing up and down I was going to retire… *shiver* never mind, the wounds still haven’t healed. Simply put, NBA 2K16 was the first game of the 2K series in recent years where one could argue that the previous game was more enjoyable; in reality, only a few things are make or break factors that held this year’s game back from being truly great.

General Gameplay

  1. Starting with the simplest of all requests, MORE HISTORIC TEAMS. The transition from 2K15 to 2K16 introduced a number of new historic teams that gave a refreshing feeling to quick match and team up players alike, who were tired of using the same teams with a new year slapped on the front cover. So this was actually something that was handled WELL in this year’s game, therefore, DO NOT deviate from the path. 2K has been known over the years to either fix what isn’t broken, or fix something only to watch it break again because of a lack of maintenance. The new teams that were added this year were great, and just as many (if possible) should be added to next year’s game as well, just so we don’t feel as if we’re paying for a “new game” with the same content. This would also help towards a MAJOR need for new player content in the MyTeam mode.

  2. This one may seem trivial to some, but as a Youtube content creator, it could make a world of difference. From what I’ve been told of other sports games (specifically Madden), the in-game commentary is, for lack of a better word, Kwame Brown. NBA analysts are responsible for some of the most memorable, spine tingling, goose bump forming calls that inspire people to pick up a ball. I guess what I’m getting to is… WHY ISN’T THIS IN THE GAME? 2K currently has Kevin Harlan, one of the most prominent voices of the NBA, signed to the brand as an in-game commentator (for the youngins, that’s the “WITH NO REGARD FOR HUMAN LIFE” guy). However, the calls of him and all his in-game contemporaries are so bland and lifeless, as if they were truly just reading right from a script in front of them. LET THEM LIVE, BRUH. If game commentary was more lively, it wouldn’t just make the game more enjoyable, it could alleviate content creators such as myself and I wouldn’t feel the need to add voice clips of real life occurrences to make a video a bit more exciting. After all, how much of a buzz kill is it to hit a buzzer beater and just hear “ohhhhh, he puts it dowwwwwwwn.” C’mon, man. Your 10 year old cousins in the room probably topped that reaction easy.

  3. Now as far as gameplay goes, things were fairly solid this year. However, the biggest killer to me was the constant patches to fix what wasn’t broken. I can’t count how many times 3 point percentages were touched this year; at multiple points I took breaks from the game just because they unrealistically started going in too much, or didn’t go in at all. In my opinion, the game was perfect on day one release. If you had a problem with the game, I’m sorry to be the one to tell you – but you sucked. If it was a good shot, it went in. If it wasn’t a good shot, it usually missed. Green releases felt rewarding and weren’t rare to the point of wondering if you were just bad at someone’s shot form. Furthermore, the defense was LOCK. DOWN. If you were an adept player that knew tendencies of how people played the game, you could guess which way someone was going and clamp them up without being unable to slide laterally quick enough or get a “blown by” animation. Yet still, the first gameplay patch came within a month’s time and the game hasn’t been the same since.

  4. Now finally, we’ve reached the miscellaneous section of gameplay. Firstly, the stat distribution (especially in MyTEAM) is abysmal. I still don’t understand how Stephen Curry is as fast as Russell Westbrook or as good a defender as Paul George. Or an even better example, how playoff moment cards like Ian Mahinmi are better rebounders than Hakeem Olajuwon. There seems to be little to no logic in some players’ stats and there needs to be more clear and linear reasoning behind players having certain ratings. Secondly, new stats could be introduced to improve gameplay. Two that I have had in mind since last year – Explosiveness and First Step. A popular exploit of this year’s game was called Speed Boosting; when certain dribble animations allowed you to burst at full speed by your defender with no resistance and before they could react. Although it has now been patched, some players REALLY are about that life (ex: Kyrie coming off a dribble or slow as molasses Paul Pierce with his deceptive first step of doom). I believe an explosiveness stat could dictate how fast players go from 0 to 100 and the First Step could allow the non-athletic, great players to still be as effective in real life as they are in 2K. Either that or make the quickness stat more prominent in regards to the original point. Also, a small note to be made should be this “equalizer” or “momentum” that was incorporated into this year’s game. There is a reason all diamond teams in MyTEAM are no longer necessary – once the game shifts, you could start making C quality shots while your opponent starts missing wide open, A- shots. There should be no reason to baby people who are bad at the game with this feature. Whenever I shoot a shot these days, I’m not even surprised to see a D+ go in. To an extent, this game can be simplified into: whoever survives the other person’s scripted run, wins. Something is wrong with that. Deny it as they may, we play the game the most. We know how it works. Finally, on-ball defense. C’mon man. We shouldn’t even still have to be asking for this. If 2K really wants to be taken seriously as a possible Esports game, on-ball defense needs to be MANDATORY. No more hiding behind the CPU. Just like real life, you need to be able to show that you’re good offensively AND defensively, or the better all around player will abuse your weaknesses and win. Simply put, if you bout it, show it. Or get exposed.

NBA 2K17 Honors Kobe Bryant With Legend Edition

Giving credit where credit is due, 2K announced today that Kobe Bryant will feature on the cover of an NBA 2K17 Legend Edition right in time for Bryant’s career-finalizing game this evening.

As one of the only characters to grace every NBA 2K title, 2K is doing their best to honor Bryant. Earlier today, they announced that those that pre-order the Legend Edition would receive a slew of items:

Physical Items:

  • Limited-edition Kobe poster;

  • Two Kobe Panini trading cards;

  • Black Mamba game controller skin.

Digital Content:

  • 30,000 Virtual Currency;

  • MyTEAM Bundle + (including 3 packs with guaranteed Kobe Free Agent card);

  • Nike Kobe XI shoes;

  • Kobe #8 Mitchell and Ness jersey;

  • Kobe hoodie;

  • And, more!

Although that, “And, more!” is quite vague, it seems adequate to provide all this content when this is Bryant’s second time being featured on the cover of the series. However, this is only for the Legend Edition, and 2K is going to unveil the player to appear on the cover for the standard edition during the NBA 2K16 Road to the Finals competition later this June.

2K also released this trailer, which is definitely worth a watch:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UysS_kQYd7s&feature=youtu.be

Regarding this development, Bryant said, “It’s a great honor to partner with 2K on the NBA 2K17 Legend Edition. As I walk off the NBA court for the final time, it’s exciting to know my fans can continue to celebrate my lifelong career as a Los Angeles Laker.”

The NBA 2K17 Legend Edition can be yours for $79.99 in both digital and physical formats for Xbox One, Xbox 360, PS3, PS4 and PC September 2016. The standard edition will be going for $59.99.
