FIFA 16 Update 6 Available for PC, Consoles to Come

EA released the latest FIFA 16 update for PC today. Consoles are set to receive the update at a later date, but EA didn’t provide an ETA. We’ll update this post when it becomes available for console players.

The update makes several changes to FIFA 16 Ultimate Team:

  • Enhanced ability to message players about issues and updates.

  • Matchmaking improvements to help players find each other quicker.

  • Matchmaking rematch issues in FUT Online Draft.

The update also fixes the compare feature on leaderboards, and an issue where Player Career Mode accomplishments was affecting Pro Clubs.

What do you think of this FIFA 16 update? Let us know in the comments, and be sure to keep an eye out for more FIFA 16 news and updates.

Adam Johnson Removed From FIFA 16, After Child Sex Conviction

The disgraced former footballer, Adam Johnson, has been purged from several soccer games after he was found guilty of engaging in sexual activity with a 15-year old schoolgirl.

Johnson, a former England international and Sunderland midfielder, has pled guilty to one count of grooming and one count of kissing the victim. The 28 year-old player, will be sentenced in March and faces a five-year prison sentence, which could be expanded to 10 years.

EA told Gamespot that Johnson has already been scrubbed from the active rosters in FIFA 16. However, they said it would take a little more time to remove his name and data from other modes.

“Adam Johnson has been removed from the Active Rosters of both Sunderland and England in FIFA 16. We’re working to remove him from other modes within the game as soon as possible.”

Johnson was also deleted from Football Manager and Konami’s Pro Evolution Soccer.

Rating the New Skill Moves in FIFA 16

Which new Skill Move to FIFA 16 is “most valuable”?

EA has implemented five new skills to this year’s installment that include both the flair-based skills such as the “Bolasie Spin” and new universal features such as the “No Touch Dribble.” Today, I’m going to touch base on which skills are most effective from the new additions to this year’s title.

Heel Flick Turn

– Great switchup skill move that catches your opponents off guard due to the new animation

– Very deceptive because it shares an identical opening execution to the Heel Flick, however, the delivery includes an additional fake

– Draws fouls often, including PKs with high frequency

8/10

Fake Pass

– Can be used against high-pressure opponents with validity if you are able to execute the skill seamlessly with instinctive reactions

– At the end of matches, this skill can be used to create possession space

– The fake pass is beautiful in theory, but it lacks regular opportunities in terms of usage, especially in a high level FIFA matches

4/10

Bolasie Spin

– Can be used as a change up with the Berba Spin in order to catch an opponent off guard

– The timing and final execution differentiates between the Berba / McGeady spin, which allows this skill to be intertwined with those as a premium change of pace

– Not a high validity rate in terms of execution and only five star skillers are able to perform the Bolasie Spin

6/10

Rabona Shot

– This add-on in FIFA 16 is solely for the skillers of ultimate team

– I can’t see a situation where a Rabona Shot is more effective than the normal power finish or placed finesse

– Looks amazing! Low rate of being able to score with this technique

3/10

No Touch Dribble

– Anyone on the pitch can execute the No Touch Dribble (Universal Skill)

– This skill is best used in a “Stop and Go” format (I have a full tutorial on my YouTube channel)

– The learning curve on the No Touch Dribble is longer compared to many other skills

– Once mastered, this skill can be an incredible combo-based move all over the pitch

– Good for shielding the ball, especially on the sidelines if you are looking for strength-based possession play

8.5/10

FIFA 16 Team of the Week 23

FIFA 16 Ultimate Team has just released Team of the Week 23, highlighted by 96 rated Suarez. The Team of the Week is rounded out by Coutinho, Barzagli, Casillas, and more. Overall, Team of the Week 23 is well above average and many of the players here are to be desired.

Now the rundown of Team of the Week 23’s starting eleven from goalkeeper to striker:

Goalkeeper: Casillas

Behind the posts we find 86 rated Casillas playing for FC Porto. He boasts an upgraded 90 diving and 91 reflexes, with very solid overall stats for a goalkeeper. He is a very solid goalkeeper and would round out any Spanish or Primeira Liga well. His first inform goes for about 55,000 across all platforms, so I would estimate this card to be worth around 100,000 on all Ultimate Team platforms.

Left Center Back: Olsson

Olsson is a slow but solid center back who plays for West Brom. This inform boosts his defense and physical stats to 80, and his passing to 70. He doesn’t have much use in a Barclays Premier League squad, because there are many options that are better and cheaper than him, but if you were creating a Swedish squad, Olsson would be your best bet. I would estimate his price right around the 10,000 threshold he would give you by quick selling him.

Center back: Barzagli

Certainly one of the higlights of Team of the Week 23, 85 rated Barzagli is upgraded to 90 defense and 80 physicality, and the rest of his stats are rounded out. He is one of the best options for a Serie A or Italy squad at center back. I could see him going for 20,000 or more across all FIFA 16 platforms.

Right Center Back: Djilobodji

This Werder Bremen defense-men boasts 73 pace, 80 defense, and 83 physicality after this upgrade. He would be a good addition to any Bundesliga squad, although not exactly a value pick. Similarly to Olssen, I would value him at around 10,000 across all platforms

Left Mid: Coutinho

Another highlight of Team of the Week 23 is Coutinho who boasts 80 or higher stats in 4 of the 6 categories. He is the optimal choice for most Barclays PL or Brazil squads with this upgrade. This 86 rated card could go for 500,000 and likely more on PC.

Left Center Mid: Tolisso

This french center mid is a very well rounded player with his lowest card stat being 73. He would make a very solid CM or CDM on any Ligue 1 or French squad. I would see him going for 10,000 on each platform’s Ultimate Team market.

Right Center Mid: Salah

Center Attacking Mid Salah now has 92 pace and 87 dribbling. If you use him I would reccommend putting him at CAM, and not CM or CDM. He is a flashy option for any Serie A squad. I would place him at 10-15,000 across all platforms.

Right Mid: Pedro

84 rated Pedro  has 4 of his 6 stat categories shown on his card above 80, and is very well rounded player. With this inform his is viable on any Barclays PL squad, and is an option on any Spanish team. I could see him going for around 20,000 on each platform.

Center Attacking Mid: Immobile

Former Borussia Dortmund star now playing in his home country sees his dribbling increase to 80 and shooting increase to 84. Immobile is a very solid all around striker and would round out any Serie A or Italy squad. He should go for around 10,000 on all platforms.

Right Striker: Deeney

Barclays Premier League Striker Deeney is featured in Team of the Week 23. His 86 physicality and his 82 shooting stats are very impressive upgrades. He is not the choice striker of any Barclays Premier League squad, but he is certainly notable. He should go for 10,000 across all FUT platforms.

Left Striker: Suarez

By far the best and most valuable player in Team of the Week 23, Suarez gets his fifth upgrade of the season. 88 pace, 95 shooting, 91 passing, 95 dribbling and 91 physicality make Suarez arguably the best player in the game. He would make a Liga BBVA or a Uruguay squad noticeably better. His last inform went for about 2 million on consoles and about 3 million on PC, so I could easily see this card going for at least 3 million, and probably 4 on the PC version of FIFA 16.

____

Team of the Week 23 for FIFA 16 Ultimate Team is a very good overall squad with many players seeing their second and third informs, and in Suarez’ case his fifth. This team of the week may even make packs worth it for that tiny chance of packing Suarez and the other high rated players. Until next week in FIFA 16.

The Ultimate Passing Guide to FIFA Success

One of the most frequently asked questions each year regarding FIFA comes down to PASSING! Why didn’t the pass make it to my player? Why didn’t he react properly? Why did it get intercepted?

With this FIFA Passing Guide I will detail how to improve your passing percentage and possession statistics in FIFA 16. First, it starts with your passing settings (THIS IS REALLY IMPORTANT) The settings I prefer are listed down below and if you want my full controller / settings the full video is also available via YouTube.

Settings

The 3 Types of Passes

In this guide I’m going to cover the basics with the normal pass, through balls, and then also the newly implemented driven pass. You will need all three of these passes in order to reach maximum potential in FIFA.

Regular Passfifa16settings1 This should be used as your primary pass which controls your attack and issues the highest validity for pass completion.

Strengths: Accurate, Consistency, Easier First Touches from the Receiver of the Pass

Weaknesses: Not ideal for Long Passing

Note: If the connection is laggy, then expect the strengths to be reduced with the normal pass.

Through Ball

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vbYMZbzSPS4

fifa16settings2When you have caught your opponent slipping on the defensive end or he’s playing too aggressive a through ball is a perfect pass to punish those mistakes. By design through balls are played into space for the attacking player to then run onto with pace. After the most recent patch ground through balls have become much more overpowered and players can capitalize much easier with counter attacks.

Strengths: Dynamic Attacking Pass, Instant Counter Attack Option

Weaknesses: Not Accurate

Note: High Risk / High Reward Passing

Driven Pass

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W8tmypTXnsk

fifa16settings3

Brand new to FIFA 16 the driven pass combines the power of the throughball, however it also has the accuracy of the regular pass which combines for a deadly weapon in this year’s installment. If you wish to progress to “Division 1” or “Win Draft Titles” the driven pass is a mandatory addition to your gameplay.

Strengths: Speed of the Pass, Allows you to Change the Rhythm to the Match, Versatile

Weaknesses: Percentage of the Receiver having a Good First Touch is Reduced, Not Ideal for Short Passing Circumstances

Note: The passing statistics and dribbling statistics can improve or be a detriment to the success rates of the driven pass.

FIFA 16 Tips: Best Formations in FIFA 16

Since the release of FIFA 16 EA Sports have announced and implemented multiple new patches that have altered the gameplay significantly following the launch. This has lead FIFA fans worldwide asking the same question “WHAT’S THE BEST FORMATION?” I made an initial Top 5 Formations in FIFA 16 video covering my breakdowns and laying down credibility behind each choice, however with the new patch it’s time for a REVAMP!

Post patch which formations are the best now?? If you want to know exactly what’s shifted in EA’s newest patch that content is available on the “Official Dirty Mike YouTube Channel.”

https://youtu.be/MOvAr7wmWI8

Honorable Mention:

352 – The FIFA 14 days are behind us in terms of seeing the ultimate overpowered 352, but it’s still a viable formation in this year’s installment. The spacing for easy outlets, counter attack proficiency, and the defensive midfielder coverage keep this formation on the radar. In higher divisions the 352 weakness in defense can be exploited and you must be aware at all times covering the backline.

4312 – The 4312 is a direct formation that works best for the simple counter attacking offensive player. I would also recommend a high pressure defensive set when using this formation in order to utilize the three midfielders best for defensive traps.

4231 (2) – The second variation of the 4231 feels organic and natural with the new patch due to the increased through ball efficiency. This allows one of the best defensive formations in FIFA 16 to also offer dangerous quick counter attacks.

Top 5 FIFA 16 Formations:

#5 – 4222 – My favorite formation from last year is still effective in this year’s installment, but with the reduced running/skilling the additional space created in the 4222 is often left underutilized. If you are a structured player in terms of build up and defending this formation will allow you to feel comfortable quickly everywhere on the pitch.

#4 – 433 (4) – Still my personal choice for the 433 variations offering the provider role with the CAM to help feed to the wingers consistently. The moonball is back for quick switches post patch and this formation lost a bit of steam in the midfield, but offers one of the most brutal attacks known to FIFA if you have the correct personnel.

#3 – 4321 – Even though this formation doesn’t always fit my preferred method of attacking or defending credit must be given for such a difficult formation to matchup against post patch. The increased speed of play combined with the ping pong passing has restored the 4321. Using the 4321 with intense pressure combined with a “balanced or attacking” mentality and your opponent will feel the heat in every single match.

#2 – 4231 – This formation gives you the best of both worlds in FIFA 16 providing balance while building possession, looking for over the top through balls, or chasing back on defense. One of the easiest formations to learn, however it takes time to master the mechanics of combining all the FIFA elements into the 4231. For squad building in FUT you have ample options in terms of hybrids or mixing nationalities to breed quick success. ENJOY!!

#1 – 41212 / 41212 (2) – I’ve linked both these formation variations together, because the only difference is the positioning in the midfield. Both 41212 are simple, balanced, and logically make sense when you look to develop attacks via the tiki taka passing or the wings. The 41212 allows players with all different levels of skill or playstyles to apply that into both ultimate team and head to head game modes.

FIFA 16 Title Update 5 Offers Balance Changes

The latest update for FIFA 16 is here, and with it several new changes. FIFA 16 Title Update 5 seems largely focused on balance, with improvements having been made in the following categories based on player feedback:

  • Penalties and referee decisions

  • Passing

  • Defensive pressure

  • Player positioning

Here’s the bulk of the changes coming with FIFA 16 Title Update 5, according to the FIFA blog over at EA’s website.

  • Improvements to the Rules and Physics systems to have better referee decisions and help address penalty decisions.

  • Behavioral changes in ‘Secondary Contain’ and ‘Interceptions’ to help balance high-pressure situations.

  • Improvements in how quickly fatigue effects occur for players using ‘Aggressive Interceptions’ and ‘Secondary Contain’. This could, in turn, have an impact on your ability to apply high pressure as the game progresses and your players become increasingly fatigued.

  • Instances where no auto tackle launched even when positioned properly.

  • Improvements in the positioning system to allow for better attacking runs and support.

This update is only available for PC players at the moment, but consoles are likely soon to follow at a later date, although the timing seems to be up in the air at the moment. In another minor change, attribute boosts provided by chemistry are also being altered, which affect passing, interception, and long shots.
