MLB The Show 16 Players Banned for Abusing Exploits

Ramone Russel recently took to twitter to field questions about why some users were recently banned from PlayStation Network as a result of playing MLB The Show 16. As it turns out, these players were banned for abusing exploits in the game, specifically exploits related to community market transactions.

The lesson here? Don’t abuse exploits, because you will get banned from PlayStation Network if you’re caught.

Russel further expanded upon the issue on the Show Nation forums last Friday, detailing a number of reasons as to why a user can find their PlayStation Network account banned from playing MLB The Show 16. The list is actually pretty long:

  • Harassment

  • Trolling

  • Insulting

  • Spamming

  • Cheating

  • Abusing exploits

  • “Hostage” situations or “Griefing”

  • Manipulating marketplace transactions

  • Selling of in-game currency for real world currency

If the offense is serious enough, or perhaps if you continue the behavior after the suspension, you can even find your console banned from the network.

“If a player is found cheating, exploiting, harassing other players, or breaking the rules in game or here on The Show Nation forums, we will suspend the account for a limited time or even permanently ban the ID and console.”

As Russel points out, flipping cards in MLB The Show 16 will not get you banned. Exploiting the community market will, however.

https://twitter.com/Ramone_Russell/status/747554201425707008

Unless you’re blatantly abusing exploits, you should be fine. For most people, this will probably make the game better. For some, it’s a little upsetting.

I used to spend a lot of time glitching in video games, which has included a number of exploits. But there’s a code among those who glitch; we never use these exploits to gain an advantage in a competitive environment or to take advantage of other players.

Considering that this exploit involved the community market, I’m guessing it affected other players. If not, and players somehow discovered a way to make money without affecting other players, should they really be banned? I don’t think so.

It’s more likely to assume that this exploit did affect other players, but without confirmation it’s hard to say. Either way, Sony does rely on Stubs to generate income from the franchise, so it seems like a good move on their part.

What do you think about this move? Is keeping cheaters out of MLB The Show 16 a good thing? Let us know in the comments or on social media.

MLB The Show 16 Patch 1.05 Released - Detailed Patch Notes

The latest MLB The Show 16 Patch 1.05 has been released, we have the detailed patch notes below. Let us know what you think of the all of the fixes and improvements!

The Show 16 Patch 1.03 Fixes and Change List

  • Addressed issues with Cloud saves introduced in patch 1.04. All Cloud Saves should now work properly.

  • Fixed classic base running, affected by patch 1.04.

  • Online Action shot/card downloading now fixed.

  • Weather in RTTS now updates correctly with Advance Day.

  • Addressed an issue with lead off runners in online game-play. The batting team should now see their base runners leading off when they press L1.

  • Fixed some issues with “L2 + base icon” to control the runner in RTTS.

  • Off season free agent logic was not estimating budget room correctly because it was not accounting for staff salary. This caused teams to inaccurately set the max salary they could offer. This should now be fixed.

  • Fixed issue where the xp earned in game was showing instead of the amount of stubs earned in game when returning to the front-end menu. This created a lot of confusion with users assuming they weren’t earning stubs. Stubs earned are now being shown instead of XP.

  • Fixed game settings not getting reset when exiting conquest and playing Extra Innings games. Extra Innings games should now be 9 innings in all cases, as intended.

  • The calendar start times in Show Live should now display accurately.

  • Challenge friends in online games should now apply all correct settings.

  • Fixed a Sounds of the Show crash when attempting to delete music files after trying to import 520+ files.

  • Various other bug fixes.

That’s it for this MLB The Show 16 patch, what do you think of the update? Let us know in the comments, and be sure to stay tuned to SGO for the latest MLB The Show 16 news and tips.

MLB The Show 16 Tips: Stopping The Run Game

In MLB The Show 16, SDS has made a few changes to stealing bases.  Compared to

previous iterations, The Show 16 has decreased the default lead off for all baserunners

by one step.  This actually plays a big role for holding runners and prevent base stealers.

Watch my tutorial from last year on the slide step:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mdLKkzLblS4

This year MLB The Show 16 has given us a few new tools in our arsenal to prevent

base stealers.  You can deke runners by holding L2 and tapping R2, while a runner is on

second base and being held on.  This will make users take a step back towards the bag

and can actually allow you to not even make pick off attempts to keep runners close.

Keeping users close to the bag at 2nd can also give your outfielders a higher chance to

throw out runners at the plate on singles to the outfield.

Watch my Deking tutorial:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5aBbbyEcQ2A

Lastly, snapback throws are implemented better this year.  They were there in year’s

past, but your catchers would throw lolly gags to the base.  This year the catcher does

throw a lot harder, pending on their arm strength.  You can also do a pitch out and/or

slidestep to better utilize the snapback throws.  If your opponent likes to take a lead off

and you cannot pick them off from your pitcher or if they like to steal and send the

runners back then the snap back throw will be a huge asset for you.  To use the snap

back throw, simply just hold the button of the bag (or use analog if your using analog

fielding) and the catcher will make a snapback throw to whatever bag you desired.

Watch my Snapback tutorial:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mbBXMXIHmBU

Also, users can mix up their pace to the plate to confuse runners.  This means you quick

pitch one pitch then you come set and hold the ball the next time.  Some users will try to

manual steal on you and this is a great way to throw them off.  You can also step off the

mound by using the L1 button and you do not even have to throw over to force the

runner back.

Overall, we have the ability to slide step, pitch out, deke, make snapback throws, and

control the pace of your delivery to keep baserunners in check.  Make sure to use all

tools to your advantage!

MLB The Show 16 Tips: Zone Hitting

The zone hitting interface has been a staple for The Show’s hitting engine since the

inception of the game.  Not much has changed over the years with this interface and I

am glad to mention that this is the same for this years’ iteration of MLB The Show.

First, lets talk about the overall feel and hitting engine in MLB The Show 16. The timing

seems to be more biased towards pulling the ball this year, meaning that users can wait

back a little bit longer and still have the ability to pull the ball.  Basically, players have

quicker bats in this years’ game.  Also, lets not forget that SDS introduced a new

mechanism called “precision input gameplay” and has a huge impact on zone hitting.

This means that your inputs have more influence on the success of your hits and you will

get punished more for bad inputs.  In summary, you have to lineup your PCI more

precisely on the ball compared to years’ past iterations.

You can use two different inputs with zone hitting, button or analog.  If you use analog

input, you can use stride or flick.  I prefer buttons, but if you like the feeling and

naturality of analog hitting then it is totally personal preference.  They all can be used

effectively.

Attributes still play a major role for zone hitting, even the pitchers’ attributes.  The size of

the PCI is made up by the hitter’s contact and plate vision.  The size of the PCI is also

slightly modified by your opponent’s pitcher’s K/9 and H/9 attributes.  K/9 directly

affects the plate vision attribute, whereas H/9 affects the contact rating.  In comparison

to other interfaces, you can do significantly better with less overall players if you get

consistent and precise inputs with zone, whereas with directional you will not

consistently hit the ball hard with lower rated players.

Lastly, zone hitting has a slightly more timing window as well.  Since users have complete

control of their PCI, SDS does open the timing up a tad in comparison to interfaces like

directional.  Zone hitting offers users the best ability to consistently make good contact

and to drive the ball.  It offers the most control and is the most reliant on users’ input.  If

you want complete control of hitting then zone hitting is the interface for you!

MLB The Show 16 Tips: Analog Hitting Introduction

MLB The Show 16 finally has re-introduced the stride back into the for pure analog hitting. In this brief Pure Analog Hitting Introduction, I will talk about the changes made to this year’s Pure analog Hitting and give you a few pointers as well.

Obviously the biggest addition to thais year’s pure analog hitting is the re-addition of the stride mechanism. Last year in MLB 15 The Show, SDS decided to take it out to due to the small percentage of users using the analog hitting. However, after talking to the community the general consesus was that the pure analog hitters were greatly disappointed. So it was a smart decision of SDS to finally implement in this feature back in. The stride is back, but you can also still use the “flick” feature that was only used for MLB 15 The Show for Pure Analog Hitting. Now lets talk about how to use stride feature effectively.

When using stride there are some differences in previous iterations of MLB The Show. In this year’s game, there is no working feedback for stride. This means that the timing of your stride really means nothing. In the past it could give you small bonuses and you could also get punished for striding too early or too late. Now it does nothing is generally just there for aesthetic purposes.

To change swing type for stride you simply press either square, x, or circle before the pitcher starts the wind up. If you have vibration on you will feel a slight vibration when you change your swing type. If you do not press any buttons then you will just be using the normal swing (x).

Now for the flick feature in pure analog hitting it works the same as last year. To power swing, you have to move the RS down then up (similar to striding) before swinging and to contact swing you need to swipe the stick all the way to the left or right when swinging. For normal swing you just flick up towards either the left or right. Keep in mind with contact swing, you can only contact swing to the left or right and never really down the middle, which is a huge flaw in the system.

Remember, regardless if you are using stride or flick when swinging you have to move the analog either up, up and to the right, or up and to the left towards the pitch. A lot of players do not realize that you control the horizontal placement of your PCI by swinging up and either to the right, left, or middle pending on where the pitch is. You also bunt with triangle still for both hitting techniques.

This interface, skill level wise, is in between directional and zone as far as how much influence users can have on their PCI placement. As for skill level required, I would also say its in between both zone and directional. Overall, this interface is a medium risk and medium reward concept. You have little influence on the PCI’s verticality, but you do have more control compared to an interface like directional.

Lastly, keep in mind attributes still play a moderate factor on pure analog hitting. Contact and plate vision will have a big influence on whether or not your PCI is on the ball, regardless of your input. Again, this interface is in between zone (which relies more on user’s inputs than attributes) and directional (relies more on attributes than user’s input). If you like directional but a little more influence on your hits or if you like zone but feel a bit too overwhelmed then definitely give this interface a try!

  1. The first of the two fixes addresses users getting a loss when players agree on a friendly quit. This bug only affects online players and should not occur anymore

  2. The second fix addresses an exploit which allowed players to avoid losing online matches if they changed certain tactics before the end of the game. This issue was mostly affecting the Battle Royale mode.

That’s it for this server update. Feel free to let us know if these changes helped you.

MLB The Show 16 Mondays: GameStop Shows off Showtime

MLB The Show 16 is one week away, which means we’re in the final stretches of the media push to show off the game. For this week’s MLB Monday via GameStop, San Diego Studio are once again demonstrating the new showtime feature.

You’ve probably heard plenty about it by now, as it’s been discussed since last month, but this week’s video offers yet another look along with some of MLB pros featured in the game.

MLB The Show 16 Vlog Showcases Franchise Mode

Another vlog for MLB The Show 16 is here, and this time Luis Martinez is going over the updates to franchise mode this year. Stat tracking is getting a big update. Now the game will track your player’s stats as they move through franchise mode, as well as every real season up to 2015. That means you can look up stats from any year of a player’s career.

As for updates to franchise mode itself, player morale and personality are going to play a big part in building your team this year. Player morale is based on seven factors, team role, contract, coaching, region, team performance, individual performance and injury. Signing free agents for the off season works similarly, with each individual player having preferences which will affect their morale.

There have been a few updates to the contract negotiation screen, too. New features include an interest bar which will change as you modify your contract terms, and the ability to pick a role. A new notification system has also been implemented to keep you informed on signings and trades.

The budget screen will allow you to see where your team stands financially by breaking down revenue and expenditures. There are quite a few other improvements, too. Those will be covered on the next Twitch stream, which will take place on March 3rd at 2 PM Pacific.

MLB The Show 16 will be available exclusively for the PlayStation 3 and PlayStation 4 starting on March 29.

MLB The Show 16: Precision Input Gameplay Engine Breakdown

San Diego Studios revealed a lot of new features during last week’s stream, but one of the

features that is not being talked about and still has some question marks behind it is the new Precision Input Gameplay Engine being implemented in MLB The Show 16.

What is Precision Input?

Gameplay focused on determinism, firmly prioritizing user skill with better

benefits for accurate inputs and bigger penalties for inaccurate inputs. Basically, this will affect everything that requires timing and hand eye coordinationg including hitting and pitching. The main aspects of hitting will be noticeable in zone hitting and potentially pure analog hitting (which they are supposedly bringing back the stride).

Zone Hitting:

For zone hitters, PCI placement will have a bigger impact on your success at

the plate. This year we will see less randomness with the PCI and more

consistent feedback for each swing.

In the past, we would often see pitches where the PCI was not even touching the ball and it would result in a HR or we would see a ball squared up perfectly with good time to equate

into a weak fly out or ground out.

Hopefully this year, we see a more consistent engine with the zone hitting and users are rewarded more with good PCI placement and timing. An example of this are in the images below.

precision1

precision2

Analog Hitting:

This is all speculation, but the stride is supposedly coming back. If so, then

this means the user has more control of their outcomes at the plate.

Pure analog hitting will require good timing with the stride, good timing with the

swing, and good analog placement that controls the placement of the PCI.

Users should get rewarded for better stride timing and swing timing more

than ever if this is implemented properly.

Directional Hitting:

This should be impacted the least, since the users are forfeiting the ability

to control the placement of their swings. In theory, good swings will be

rewarded more, but the problem is that when users choose to use

directional hitting they are sacrficing bat placement and leaving that feat to

be decided more on attributes. In speculation, good timing swings may be

slightly more rewarded and vice versa.

Pulse and Classic Pitching:

Pulse and Classic pitching will be affected minimally by precision input. You

may be rewarded more with good timing on the pulsations when using

pulse pitching, but classic pitching strictly goes by the pitchers’ attributes.

Meter Pitching:

Meter pitching will be impacted significantly by precision input. If the user

can consistently hit the green spot of the meter then they will hit their

spots, however if the user is off then the pitch will be off even more than

usual.

Analog Pitching:

Similar to Meter pitching, Analog will be heavily impacted by precision

input. Users will be more rewarded when they hit their intended spot and

punished when they miss.

In the past, you were not punished as much when missing a spot with analog and the ball would still go where your input took it. Now users may be punished even more, however if you can consistently hit your spots with analog then it will be very effective.

Fielding:

Precision Input may have an impact on Fielding. That is yet to be

determined, but it would affect analog throwing and button accuracy the

most.

Overall, this feature will reward those with better timing and placement.

This should be a positive, especially for online play where you want user

skill to determine the winner and not attributes, randomness, and luck.

MLB The Show 16 Stream Details New Features and Gameplay

San Diego Studios showed off more gameplay from MLB The Show 16 today as part of their streaming schedule, and this time the emphasis was on new features. What’s coming in the latest iteration of the game this Spring? Quite a bit! We’ve already discussed the new ShowTime mechanic, but that’s not the only improvement we’ll be seeing this year.

theshow2

As you can see from the image above taken from the twitch stream which was broadcast earlier today, a lot of effort is going into improving the animations and player personalities in order to make the game feel more real. They’ve talked about their focus on this in the past, but this is the deepest we’ve been on the subject so far.

According to the chart, there are couple of new animation types, some of which will only show up on the PS4 version of the game. New pitcher animations will only be “partial PS3,” whatever that means. I’d guess that it means only some of them will make an appearance on the console.

Next up are four new swings. There are now 7 swings, with swings now being assigned to players based on the type of hitter they are. A new set of animations for athleticism will also make an appearance, though only in the PS4 version. You can tell that they’re really trying to improve the animations this time around, although it seems like there will be some disparity between versions.

They also included a list of new features and improvements for MLB The Show 16, which you can see below.

There will be new, more realistic routes for the ball, new animations for out of position players, and new animations for cut offs and relays. Along with that comes a revamped tag system, revamped umpire personalities, new home umpire animations, and new bunt logic. Basically, the game is getting a bit more realistic, and that’s a big deal when it comes to sports simulation.

The rest of the stuff is pretty much technical, but you can see that the list is extensive. While a lot of these changes might occur behind the scenes, the end result should hopefully be a game that’s more true to the sport. Of course, until we get our hands on the game, we won’t know for sure. But, it has been great seeing the game leading up to the release in March.

MLB The Show 16 Features: ShowTime

One of the biggest features that San Diego Studios have been touting over the past couple months is the addition of a new feature to MLB The Show 16 called ShowTime. If you’ve been paying attention, then you know that ShowTime is essentially slow motion for plays. But what’s it really about, and what can you do with it?

Today, an infographic appeared on the MLB The Show twitter account demonstrating what exactly you can do by slowing down the game with the new feature. You can pretty much slow down any play, as demonstrated by the infographic below.

So why would you want to use ShowTime, and what can you use it for? According to the chart, the new feature will allow you to “punch up any aspect of your gameplay with increased accuracy.” We’ve already seen plenty of ShowTime, but as the game nears its release in March, we’ll likely see more. This is an important feature this time around, and let’s be honest, slow motion makes everything better.

A lot of what we’d seen of ShowTime has been limited to batting, but you can trigger it just about anywhere. It can be used for fielding with dives, home run robs, in-field throws, hot shot reactions, and catches on close plays. It can also be used to improve your pitching and batting game. But you don’t have to use it in those situations, you can use it anywhere!

Want to see where a pop fly will land? You can do that. Want to get a better look at the ball off the bat? You can do that too. It’s not just for making plays. The latest twitch stream from San Diego Studio offers a look at the new feature at just over an hour of gameplay, and if you missed it, you can watch the VOD below.

ShowTime is pretty cool. But it’s not the only thing MLB The Show 16 has to offer. As we get closer to the game’s release in March, we’ll find out more about what’s in store for this year. What do you think of ShowTime? Is it a welcome addition? Let us know in the comments.

MLB The Show 16 will be available exclusively for the PlayStation 4 starting on March 29.

MLB The Show 16 Developer Video Details New Features

In a new video uploaded by IGN earlier today, developer Ramone Russell of Sony San Diego runs through the teaser trailer for the game which debuted at PlayStation Experience earlier this month.

The first update described in the video is that all appropriate stadiums will now have the option to be played with the roof open or closed in exhibition and online mode. When you play Franchise and Road to the Show, the weather will determine whether or not you’ll be playing with the roof open.

Another change which will serve to make the game look better is physically based rendering, which makes objects and surfaces look more real. The example given in the video was that wood will look more like wood, and glass will look more like glass.

For a small change in gameplay, MLB The Show 16 will introduce a new feature called showtime, which is effectively slow motion at designated moments in order to allow for more precise control. It’s also optional, which is a nice touch for those uninterested in slowing things down.

MLB The Show 16 will also include hundreds of new animations, like home run swings, pitcher reactions, double plays, diving and throwing. There are also three new running styles, small, athletic and lumbering.

The biggest additions this time around, however, are a couple of new modes. Conquest, which is apparently so large that it couldn’t be covered in that trailer, as well as an unnamed mode that will be revealed at a later date. Several classic stadiums will also make their return; Forbes Field, Shibe Park, Sportsman Park, Polo Grounds, Crosley Field, and Griffith Park. These ones are referred to as being free, so we might see some additional classic stadiums as DLC somewhere down the line, though it isn’t specified in the video.

Finally, there were also six new legends revealed in the trailer, but more are on the way. All of the legends from last year will also be making a return. Two new Diamond Dynasty card types will be available as well, Rookie and Prime.

That about covers the new information from the video, but I’d also recommend watching the video above. What do you think of these features, are you excited to pick up MLB The Show 16 come March? Let us know in the comments and on social media.
