Tips:

Happ throws 5 pitches with 3 offspeed pitches. 4 seamer, 2 seamer, changeup, slider, and

curveball. His 4 seam tops out at 93 mph, while his changeup and slider come in at 83 mph. His curveball can come in at 77 mph. None of his offspeed pitches have more than 66 break,

including his changeup with 36 break. Cabrera hits lefties very well and has good vision, so you should have the advantage here.

The goal should be to power swing for the first few difficulties to accumulate a nice hefty active score before you to get All-Star or higher. Once on All-Star, begin contact swinging and try to stay in between the fastball and changeup. The changeup and slider gave me the most fits, but once I started to stay back then I was good to go. You should still be able to foul off fastballs if you stay up back too.

I always recommend zone, especially for COTW. Start your PCI in the middle and react

accordingly. Remember for every 5 hits, you get a 2000 x 2 multiplier and for every 2 linedrives you get a 2000 x 2 multiplier. For every 24 hits, you will also get a 2000 x 2 multiplier, although you may only seen that a few times during your session.

COTW is a great way to get practice in before starting games and its another way to earn stubs and rewards. So make sure to give it a try and see where you can place! Good Luck!

MLB The Show 16 Tips: Battle Royale

Battle Royale is a new addition to the MLB The Show 16’s Diamond Dynasty.  Users can enter a double elimination tourney, draft a 25 man roster, and earn unique rewards.  In this tutorial I will give you some very good Battle Royale Draft Tips and discuss some potential rewards!

Bullpen is the most important thing in Battle Royale and I cannot stress this enough.  The way SDS implemented a 5 man rotation plus the fatigue system it essentially makes starting pitches irrelevant.  SDS turned the sliders down for SP fatigue and they can only throw 15-25 pitches, pending on pitch confidence.  Bullpen guys can still throw up to 10-15 pitches, but the stamina does not carry over from game to game, unlike Diamond Dynasty Head to Head ranked games. Therefore, I recommend at least one stud reliever, whether you make it your gold or diamond player.  When I went 20-0 I used Joe Nathan as my diamond.  You also want to make sure you have, at least, two lefties in the pen but three is recommended.

Draft all bronzes and commons for your SP.  As I mentioned before, these guys are useless.  Once the game begins, warm up your relievers immediately and do a mound visit.  If you are the home team, you may want to wait until the 3rd batter to bring in your pen.  Otherwise they will not be fully warmed up and this affects their fatigue rate drastically.  If you are the away team then you can bring in your bullpen for the 2nd batter.

Draft a good combination of left, right, and switch hitters.  You don’t want to stack your team with all lefties or vice versa.  Mix up your lineup where you have a lefty, righty, lefty, righty, etc.  This makes it more difficult for your opponent to utilize their bullpen and play the matchups.  I also recommend leading off your best hitting and putting your next better hitter in the 2 hole.  I also won games where I would bat Reggie Stocker and Steve Finley back to back.

Make sure you have some good platoon guys on the bench, as well as one speed guy.  Draft some bronzes that hit lefties or righties particulary well so you can use them as pinch hitters.  It also helps to have one speed guy that can be used as a pinch runner late in games.

Small ball prevails in 3 inning games!  Utilize bunts, advance runners, use pinch runners when necessary, utilize hit and runs, etc.  The goal is to get that first run across in this game mode to put the most pressure on your opponent.

Be patient at the plate.  Even though this is only 3 inning games, patience is still increcibily important.  If you can see 13-15 pitches an inning then you will force your opponent to go through relievers very fast and if the games goes 6-7 innings then their pen will be short handed pretty fast.

Rewards:

You get rewarded for your 2nd, 6th , 12th, and 20th wins. You also are always guaranteed one pack on each entry.  If you go 20-0 then you get an extra reward as well.  Your 2nd win will generally be a bronze.  The 6th win is usually a silver.  The 12th win can be a silver or gold, but usually a silver.  20th wins will get you, at least, a gold card and they are generally flashbacks or legends.   So far I have obtained Rookie Puig, Prime Votto, and 99 Rangers Alex Rodriguez.  I also know of Nolan Ryan, Brooks Robinson, Prime CC Sabathia, 98 Joe Nathan and many more being potential rewards!

We hope this helped and if you guys have any questions you can follow Cardinalbird5 on twitter or watch his livestream here.

MLB The Show 16 Tips: Extra Innings

Extra Innings is a feature in Diamond Dynasty for MLB The Show 16 that, unfortunately, a

lot of people do not know about. It is a great way to play friends, earn XP, earn rewards,

grind innings for your conquest missions, and advance towards your statistical missions.

It can also be the quickest way to grind the innings. Basically Extra Innings is a mode

that allows users to play other users’ teams vs the profile in an offline game. It still

tracks the stats and shows up in game history, but will not affect the record of whichever

team your playing offline. However, it will give them innings and stats which can help

them complete missions.

To play Extra Innings you need to go find which team you want to play by going to the

standings tab on the far right. Simply find the team you want to play and click on their

name and hit “play an extra inning game”. Then you can choose the difficulty. Based on

the difficulty, there are different reward percentages. For example, if you play on HOF

the chance of a diamond is usually around .30 percent and you will be guaranteed a

bronze or higher. However, if you play on Rookie you can still have a chance to get a

common. Keep in mind, you actually have to win the games to get the reward

percentages, however even if you lose you still earn stubs, xp, and innings for both sides.

Extra Innings is potentially the fastest way to grind innings for the conquest missions, as

well. If you and a friend both play each others teams at the same time then it will count

as double. Play with friends, conquest, play vs cpu, online head to head and battle

royale all still work, but this is by far the quickest method to grind innings. The only

downside to this is that if both users are ranked low it can take awhile to find them in

the standings, so I do recommend trying to get your rating up a bit before trying this.

That being said, it can still be done. Unfortunately, SDS needs to make this an easier

process for users to find one anothers’ team.

In conclusion, Extra Innings is an overlooked mode that can allow users to earn XP, stubs,

unlock missions, earn card rewards, and grind innings the most efficiently. Plus it can be

a ton of fun and another way to play Diamond Dynasty Offline!

MLB The Show 16 Tips: Pure Analog Pitching

With the new precision input being implemented in MLB The Show 16, choosing the proper interface that fits your skill-set and style the best is even more important this year.

This year I can truly say that Pure Analog Pitching is the most satisfying and rewarding interface to use for pitching.  Not only does it reward you more for more precise inputs, but when you make a mistake it is because you messed up and no one else.  You have full control on where your pitches go and only your skill-set can determine the effectiveness of your pitching.  With other interfaces, such as Meter, I feel like the same statement cannot be said.

Lets first discuss the basics on how Pure Analog works and I will also throw in some pointers.

Pure Analog is actually pretty simple to understand.  You control both the vertical and horizontal axis in where your pitch goes.  Simply hold back on the RS when you want to start your windup and push forward towards the direction you want to pitch once the ball is near the line on the meter.  It really is as simple as that and simply just takes a little bit of practice to get a feel for how the interface works.

Now lets discuss what affects the ease and control-ability of utilizing this interface.  The Pitchers’ control attributes for each given pitch affects how easy it is to locate your pitches and makes using the interface less sensitive.  The BB/9 attribute affects how consistently you will hit your spots when you have successful inputs on the analog.  Also, fastballs will always be easier to locate than breaking balls and pitches that throw slower will also be easier to use.

Finally, here are some pointers for using pure analog pitching!

1- Practice, Practice, Practice.  I recommend creating a RTTS pitcher and only using Pure analog pitching.  It is fun and will get you plenty of practice in a short span of time.

2- Try different Kontrol Freeks.  I prefer convex ones because I like to start my thumb at the bottom of the RS and it rolls over naturally.  I noticed it was more difficult with concave Kontrol Freeks, however.  This is personal preference though and everyone will prefer something different.

3- Try starting your thumb placement at different spots and get a feel for what is getting you the most accurate results.  Again, I like to start mine at the bottom of the RS, but you may also want to try putting your thumb directly over the top of the RS.

I have a sub 2 ERA right now by using Pure Analog pitching versus stellar competition in Diamond Dynasty.  So definitely give this interface a try if you have not already!

Let us know if this helped you out in developing your pure analog pitching, and drop a comment below.

As always follow us on Twitter and YouTube to stay up to date on MLB The Show 16 news.

MLB The Show 16 Tips: Finding the Right Hitting Camera

In MLB The Show 16 there are tons of hitting cameras to choose from. Today we are here with a detailed video exploring which hitting camera is right for you. Let’s take a look at these different views and which ones are favored by many. We have highlighted the cameras in red that are preferred for performance by us.

Fish Eye

Fish Eye was used primarily in many of the livestreams. It looks amazing for presentation and gets a good amount of the stadium in the picture, but it is not the best for pure performance.

The Show 15

The default view from the previous installment of The Show. It looks like a slightly more zoomed in fish eye.

Zoom

This camera is set up giving you a full view of the batter and up the foul line until about first and third base respectively.

Retro

This is an MVP Baseball-like view that gives you a view from the bottom half of the strike-zone and shows much more vertically and less horizontally.

Offset 2

This looks the same depth as retro, but the camera angle is moved slightly more inside.

Strike Zone

This angle gives you a view straight from the strike zone. This camera angle puts a focus on performance and less so on presentation. All you see of the batter are his elbows and knees.

Wide

Similar to fish eye, but somewhat less wide. This angle has some very good presentation aesthetics.

Offset

Similar to wide, but gives you a greater sense of depth perception. This angle also captures the entire batter’s box.

Offset Zoom

Similar to the strike zone view, this camera angle gives you a close up view of the strike zone. This also gives you more of the batter’s box in the angle.

The Show 16

This is very similar to The Show 15 view, but slightly offset.

Catcher High

This view also looks very similar to The Show 16 but is set up slightly higher.

Overall, the more zoomed in cameras in MLB The Show 16 allow you to focus better on the pitch and see exactly where it is going. Strike Zone, Offset Zoom, and Zoom are the three best for playing online and make it easier to pick up the pitches. Everyone has their own preferences for hitting cameras, but these are just some of the ones that could make it easier when you are at the plate.

Hopefully now you know which batting camera best suits you.

1. InsideEdge, added special cases for special character in the CSV file. special N especially.

2. Conquest PHASE VICTORY went missing, users should now be able to complete the Conquest.

3. Inside Edge increased size field for notes due to more data coming from IE. Please see these changes within Diamond Dynasty.

4. Show live pulls yesterday’s data for “more info” we should then display THAT data and not pull another day’s data.

5. Show Shop now fixed for Japanese region, voucher only territory. Bundle voucher packs can now be redeemed in-game.

6. Fix for inning stat missions and faction missions. users no longer have to go advance the mission for it to update.

7. Feeding no sell cards to Dynasty player still enabled, but made lineup generation protect itself against people with low amounts of players. «NEW

*To test, please make sure you have the minimum amount of players on your DD team to field a team, which includes a Dynasty player. Then try to feed cards from your lineup to your Dynasty player. You will encounter an invalid roster/lineup issue in this situation, but that’s the best we can do for now. Users will have to manually fix their teams.

For the guys asking about the first roster update. It won’t be until 11th or the 18th because there are so many new guys needing approval.  Check back daily for all of the latest MLB The Show 16 Updates and Tips.

MLB The Show 16 Review: An In-Depth Look at the Biggest Show in Baseball

Evolution. A curious thing. When examined through a narrow lens, it’s nearly imperceptible. But pull that lens back, take a look at the broader picture, and evolution becomes visible. It’s a magnificent process. A process that undoubtedly exists in SCEA’s MLB The Show Franchise. So, aware of the existence of evolution within their own series, the team at Sony attempts to gradually evolve their legacy with MLB The Show 16; a process made increasingly more difficult as the game pulls ever closer towards authentic replication of the game of baseball. But as we’ll soon discover, MLB 16 continues to blur the lines between fantasy and reality. How does Sony do this? Well, let’s play ball.

Gameplay

The same can be said every year, but MLB 16 is not a big leap forward over MLB 15, which, incidentally, played similarly to its previous entry, and even the one before it. Right off the bat, MLB 16 introduces a wealth of minor gameplay additions that serve to inject greater authenticity to the series, including but not limited to hundreds of new fielding and batting animations, more realistic routes taken by outfielders for fly balls, the reintroduction of the stride component to analog hitting, a new batting camera that provides greater depth and perspective, more realistic and more varied hit dispersions, more realistic bunting outcomes, and much, much, more. Of course, these are relatively minor changes, but taken together, the improvements yield a more refined baseball simulation.

There are, however, more significant alterations to gameplay. This year, the game places greater importance on user ability over player ratings; a transition in design philosophy that poses drastic implications for the series going forward. Ultimately though, Sony’s attempt to provide the user with increased control over the outcome of the play is met with fantastic results. Most importantly, the increase in user control never overpowers the game’s numerous RNG elements that are fashioned to generate realistic outcomes. Rather, the outcome of a play simply assigns greater weight to player inputs than in previous years. Perhaps more than any other year, SCEA strikes a near perfect balance between player ratings, precise controls, and realistic outcomes. It’s a delicate balancing act that has been the downfall of lesser sports games, but The Show 16 knocks it out of the park.

Moreover, MLB 16 simply moves better than last year’s edition. Not only does the game benefit from the abundance of new animations, but the engine has been further refined to allow for increased branch points necessary for more fluid animation blending. Over the course of a play, many independent animations blend seamlessly into one another, sculpting the illusion that a single canned animation is being triggered. Rarely does an animation sequence unveil this façade; almost always, MLB 16 is poetry in motion, a series of independent animations that dance in harmony to form a well coordinated symphony of player movement.

Ok. So MLB 16 The Show’s gameplay is fantastic. But it’s not all a grand slam. Upon release, there are balancing issues that hamper the game’s realism. Currently, home runs constitute far too great a percentage of balls put in play, ultimately transforming the game into a bit of a home run fest. Likewise, fielders are too prone to wildly inaccurate throws, resulting in games with unrealistic amounts of errors. And finally, outfielders are far too quick in the field, covering vast seas of grass with little regard for the limits of human nature. Granted, while post-game support will more than likely mitigate particular balancing issues, use of the extensive customization options via sliders can neutralize these gameplay deficiencies immediately. However, at its core – minor quibbles aside – MLB 16 feels like baseball. And that’s the greatest compliment it can receive.

Presentation

The Show’s third year on Playstation 4 hardware yields spectacular results, bringing in a plethora of graphical refinements and upgrades, along with substantial improvements to the commentary engine. Graphically, the introduction of physical based rendering allows light to more realistically reflect off of various surfaces, and general improvements to the lighting engine permits the night lighting model to flex its beautiful muscles. Beautiful in still image, but even better in motion. MLB 16 is the best looking sports game on the market. Period.

PBR_COL_Sunset

As good as it looks, The Show might even sound better. The commentary engine has finally been modified to allow for greater amounts of branching dialogue, group dialogue, and interruptible commentary, rendering the Matt Vasgersian-led broadcast as a dynamic trio that reacts dynamically to the events that unfold both during the course of a game and during the course of a season. Even the commentary, a long considered soft-spot for the series, is beginning to blur the distinction between game and reality.

However, the franchise mode radio show -“Inside the Show” – doesn’t fare nearly as well. The commentary provides box score updates around your league but lacks the proper audio stitching to keep from feeling robotic. Perhaps another announcer would prove more effective.

Finally, The Show 16 is fraught with thousands of new player personality animations, all of which are triggered at appropriate times. Individual and team personality animations lend greater context to the events that unfold throughout the course of a play and inject some much-needed emotion into the game. Most importantly, these animations perfectly accentuate the gameplay animations such that they flow smoothly into one another without transitional hiccups. In general, animations play off one another beautifully and are further bolstered by the game’s refusal to drop below its buttery smooth 60 frames per second. The Show 16 is unrivaled in its presentation; a near perfect package of quality graphics, animation, and audio neatly tied under a large bow.

Game Modes

Numerous improvements and additions abound in the game’s core modes. SCEA has incorporated more RPG elements to both Road to the Show and Franchise Mode, including a new perk system that provides enhancements to your created player or team. For example, a new ShowTime perk allows users to slow down time in critical moments to maximize control over pitching, hitting, and throwing. Stay tuned for guides on how to use this feature at a later date. Likewise, a new player morale system serves to modify the stats of your teammates based on a multitude of relevant factors, including individual playing time, team success, financial security, etc. So keep everyone happy. You don’t want an Adam LaRoche situation on your hands. Additionally, scouting has been revamped and now includes an authentic 20/80 player rating scale, complete with new player skills to scout. While the game mode improvements are noted, the simulation engines that govern these new systems have not been extensively tested to prove their authenticity.

There are two new modes, “Battle Royale” and “Conquest”.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5wx0cfvR_SE

In Battle Royal you compete versus other players in Diamond Dynasty after drafting a team. Winning will you a chance at some awesome rewards. The first time you enter is on the house, but after that it will cost you 1,500 stubs each time you wish to enter. Win or lose you get a standard pack, so you get something out of it regardless of how you do. Here is a breakdown of prize milestones. Once your team is drafted you face off against someone else who drafted their team in a three inning contest. Exclusive flashback and legend cards are available through this mode as prizes for getting certain amounts of wins.

The second of the new modes they added into MLB The Show 16. Conquest is an online single player mode where take your diamond dynasty team versus 30 MLB CPU teams. You compete with other teams for fans, which will determine which difficulties you can play on. Conquest is a turn based strategy game where you need to obtain fans and conquer new territories using your fans. Conquest games are also three innings. Depending on how many fans you have in an area, you can chose to sim a game and it will tell you if you have a low, medium or high chance of winning the game. Check back here for additional coverage on those modes, as well as Diamond Dynasty, very soon.

Conclusion

Sony has once again expanded upon the best playing sports game on the market without compromising its best qualities, instead furthering its artistic vision in a way that seems to be approaching its limits. Still, MLB 16 is not much different than its predecessor. For veterans of the series, such familiarity – fused with the balancing issues at launch – may breed feelings of apathy. But don’t let its familiarity fool you. Now more than ever, the new focus on player determinism truly enables you to become the player you’re controlling. You become the bat. You become the glove. You wear the jersey. What happens on the field? It’s all up to you. So pick up the controller, head out onto the virtual field, and play ball. It’s never felt better.

MLB 16 The Show gets a 9.5 out of 10.
