Rocket League"s Biggest Update Neo Tokyo Coming Soon

Rocket League is getting a massive update this month, and it will be bringing new arenas, items, and improvements on June 20. The update is called Neo Tokyo, and Psyonix is calling it the biggest update for the game yet.

The update, which is “inspired by the cyberpunk dystopias made popular in the 1980s”, will feature a brand new arena of the same name. The arena was originally released as part of the Rocket Labs experimental playlist, and is a reimagined version of the multi-tiered Underpass stadium. This reimagining adds streamlined gameplay improvements and a “highly detailed” environment.

This Neo Tokyo update also comes with a plethora of other inclusions, which they’ve kindly listed out. You can check out that list with bullet points below, which comes directly from the press release.

  • The beginning of “Season 3” for Competitive Playlists, which resets all skill ratings and rewards last season’s players with exclusive Rocket Boosts that reflect their final rank

  • An expanded Item drop system that adds…
    • More than 20 “Rare” and “Very Rare” Item types for online, post-game drops

    • An easy-to-use “Trade In” system that allows players to exchange multiple Items of one rarity type for an even rarer one.

    • New “Painted” Items that offer different color variations on existing Garage favorites like Toppers and Wheels

    • Special “Certified” Items that track specific in-game stats and increase in prestige the higher those stats go

  • New Quick-Chat customization options that expand player choices for fast, in-game communication

  • New Post-Game celebrations that spotlight the winning team and allow them to jump, spin, and boost their car to show off their accomplishments

  • “Pillars,” a new experimental Arena that separates the field into three lanes via two massive walls in the middle of the stadium

  • A new, in-game “Showroom” that allows players to view and purchase all previously-released and future premium DLC

  • Eight new Trophies and Achievements on all three platforms

According to the blog post on the Rocket League website, new blog posts will be on the way to discuss some of the features included with the update. A blog post detailing the trophies and achievements added to the game will hit on June 13, while details on the showroom will be available on June 15.

Two Neo Tokyo inspired cars will also become available, though they’ll initially only be available through the collector’s edition of the game. Those of us that aren’t picking it up will have to wait until July 5 in North America. Europe will get the cars on June 24.

Those cars are called Esper and Masamune, and will be included with the other collector’s edition cars in the $1.99 DLC that will become available worldwide on July 18.

Are you excited to see more Rocket League DLC? Let us know in the comments if you’ll be picking this one up.

Rocket League Adds Two More Cars From Supersonic Acrobatic Rocket-Powered Battle-Cars

Rocket League has been very successful for Psyonix after the initial launch on the PS4 last year, and as a result, they’ve been bringing over cars from the game’s predecessor, Supersonic Acrobatic Rocket-Powered Battle-Cars.

This time, they’re adding two more cars from that game. This Summer, they’re bringing Aftershock and Marauder to Rocket League as DLC, for a total of $1.99. Before that, they’ll be exclusive to the new collector’s edition of Rocket League.

That version of the game is physical, and will become available in Europe on June 24. For those of you that are located in North America, you’ll have to wait a bit longer, as the collector’s edition will become available on July 5.

Already own the game and don’t want to pick it up again? That’s okay, because the cars will be released separately as DLC on July 18 worldwide. It’s a long time to wait, but hey, it’s great to see that Psyonix is still supporting the game.

Dying Light Comes to Rocket League With Free Items

Earlier this year, Rocket League and Dying Light came together to give fans of both games a bit of Rocket League in Dying Light. Now, it’s happening again, but this time Dying Light is coming to Rocket League.

As you’re probably used to by now with promotions in Rocket League, the items will make an appearance with a patch currently scheduled for late June. That patch will include two Dying Light themed items, an antenna and a flag.

It’s probably not something to get excited about unless you really liked Dying Light, but more free content is always great, and it’s nice to see Psyonix teaming up with other developers to bring other games into the fray.

New Rocket League Update Introduces Cross-Network Play

There’s been a lot of talk about Psyonix introducing cross-network play to their indie hit Rocket League, but now the time has finally come, and the feature is actually about to become a reality — if you’re playing on the Xbox One or PC.

Sadly, the PS4 has yet to join in on the cross-network shenanigans, but this is still a major milestone for the game, and for the Xbox One. With the update, Rocket League will become the first Xbox One game to support cross-network play with a PC game on Steam.

If you’re not interested in linking up with players on other platforms, Rocket League conveniently offers the option to disable cross-network play. All you have to do is check a box in the options menu.

The update will be released later today at 3 p.m. Pacific, and 6 p.m. Eastern. Will you be trying it out? Let us know in the comments below.

Hoops Brings Basketball to Rocket League With Patch 1.17

If you are reading this article, then you probably know what Rocket League is all about. With the latest free update, Psyonix adds yet another sport into the mix in the form of Hoops.

The update comes with a new map to go along with the new game mode. This map is also more than just a re-skin. The goal is not its usual rectangular shape. It is instead circular and elevated from the ground. As I’m sure you could have guessed, the ball has also been changed to a basketball. Players on will also get a free NBA logo flag. If you want to rep your favorite team, you will have to fork over $1.99 for the DLC.

This comes just a few months after the Winter Sports update, which included hockey with more maps and modes. Just like the addition of Hoops, this was also a free update. It is refreshing to see developers release content that isn’t always blocked by a paywall.

Will you be checking out the new mode? Let us know in the comments.

Rocket League Basketball Mode Hoops Coming April 26

Rocket League’s latest take on sports, a basketball mode called Hoops, finally has a release date. We’ve known for a while now that the mode would see a release sometime this month, but now the date has been set for a definitive release of April 26.

Hoops will be coming to PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC players via a free update on April 26. If you’re a fan of basketball, you can also pick up the NBA flag pack for $2.99, which will net you access to all 30 NBA team flags. All players will also immediately receive an NBA logo flag with the update regardless of whether or not you decide to purchase the NBA flag pack.

It’s nice to see that Psyonix are still bringing fresh content to Rocket League both free and as paid DLC nearly a year after release. Are you excited to check out the new mode? Let us know in the comments, and be sure to check out the trailer up top.

Rocket League Patch 1.16 Available Now

Rocket League patch 1.16 is available now for PC and PlayStation 4 users. It’s looking like a small update. According to the blog post on the website, the patch largely focuses on improving the ball physics within the game, as well as lowering the ESRB rating to a more family-friendly E.

CHANGES AND UPDATES

GENERAL

  • Introduced global changes to the physics behavior (with additional revisions to the “Wasteland” Arena, specifically) to help ensure that the ball more accurately behaves as expected

  • Adjusted the hitboxes on several vehicles to bring outliers more inline with other vehicles

  • ESRB Rating has been lowered to “E” from “E10+”

 BUG FIXES

GENERAL

  • Fixed an exploit that allowed Battle-Cars to jump considerably higher than they were supposed to

Not a lot of changes this time around, but basketball mode is right around the corner. You can look forward to that later this month, although we’ve still yet to receive an exact release date. As always, we’ll keep you posted when we learn more.

Rocket League Partners With ESL, AVGL And Rocket League Central For Competitive Events

Psyonix, the developer behind Rocket League, recently announced that they are joining in a number of partnerships centered around eSports at all levels.

The company is teaming up with the Electronic Sports League, Rocket League Central, and the American Video Game League starting this month.

In a statement, Luke Thompson, Competition & Events Manager for Psyonix, said, “We’re incredibly pleased to officially fund ESL, Rocket League Central, and the AVGL. With more than $30,000 in prize pools and scholarships, Rocket League players will now have a place to compete and develop their talent, regardless of their experience or skills.”

The ESL partnership is geared toward amateurs competitions with the League’s Rocket League Go4 Cups. Prize pools are expected to increase in the upcoming season.

AVGL will be responsible for promoting and managing the Rocket League Collegiate Spring Showdown, with scholarship money available for winners. They’ll also be broadcasting the showdown on their Twitch stream.

Finally, Psyonix is teaming up Rocket League Central, a community-driven group run by Rocket League players. RLC runs events and tournaments for their community including the Rocket Royale, competitive community events at the pro level that also helps semi-pros make the leap.

The Developers Behind Rocket League Figured Out Cross-Network Play

There’s been lots of talk surrounding PlayStation and Xbox players connecting for online play recently, with Rocket League developers Psyonix stating that cross-network play is one of the most requested features for the game, and Microsoft inviting Sony to join them. It’s a hot topic. Xbox and PC users have been able to play together since the Xbox 360, and the same goes for Sony with games dating back to the PlayStation 2.

But never before have Microsoft and Sony cooperated to allow cross-network play between Xbox and PlayStation. That might soon change, provided Sony agrees to Microsoft’s offer to let it happen. Rocket League has long offered cross-platform support between PC and console players, but now they’re pushing to including cross-platform support between consoles.

Judging by the latest news from Psyonix, it might soon come to fruition. That is, if Microsoft and Sony allow it. In an interview with GameSpot published yesterday, Psyonix discussed the reality of bridging the consoles. As it turns out, they’ve figured it out and well on track. The only thing stopping them is Microsoft and Sony.

It’s just a matter of waiting now. If you’d asked anyone whether or not they thought PlayStation and Xbox gamers would be able to play with each other at the end of last year, nobody would have thought the idea stood a chance. But thanks to Microsoft and Rocket League, it just might. Still, probably best not to get our hopes up.

Would you like to see cross-network play? Let us know in the comments.

Rocket League to Get Cross-Network Play

Microsoft announced this week that Xbox One and certain Windows 10 games would be getting cross-network play this coming spring.

The company didn’t name any specific games, but we now know that Rocket League will be one of the first games to support cross-network play on the Xbox One and PC.

In a blog post, Psyonix spokesman Jeremy Dunham stated that cross-network play has been the number one most requested feature by the Rocket League community.

Dunham even hinted that cross-network might be possible on PS4 down the line.

Unfortunately, a hard date hasn’t been set by either Microsoft or Psyonix. For now, we know that the feature will be available at some point this spring.

Zombies in Rocket League? Dying Light DLC Incoming

With the newest mish-mash of Dying Light and Rocket League content, we finally have a winning combination that was long overdue: vehicles and zombies.

The creators behind Rocket League and Dying Light teamed up to bring some truly different material to both games that features content from their counterpart. As of right now, you can go to this website and enter “LightMyRocket” to get a Rocket League skin for the buggies introduced in the Dying Light: The Following content.

Psyonix, the studio behind Rocket League, has not released their Dying Light downloadables as of yet.

Techland, the development studio behind Dying Light, issued this statement regarding Rocket League’s future content as wall as an explanation for the staggered release:

“The Dying Light items mentioned in the press release for Rocket League are coming later this year. We were excited to get something Rocket League-related in our game for our recent expansion, The Following. Psyonix will be including Dying Light Garage items in a future update. More details to come about those at a later date.”

Rocket League is Getting a Basketball Mode

First Psyonix brought hockey to Rocket League, now they’re bringing another sport to the game. This time it appears to be basketball, as the team behind the game took to twitter to tease us all with an image ahead of March Madness.

https://twitter.com/RocketLeague/status/708107277543182336

We’re approaching the point where all sports are going to be featured in Rocket League, and I think we can all agree that’s a future worth looking forward to. So what’s next after basketball, bowling? Not a bad idea if you’re listening, Psyonix.

Regardless, hopefully we’ll hear more about Rocket League‘s new basketball mode in the near future. For now, you’ll have to feast your eyes on the image up top and be content with playing hockey.

Rocket League Partners with Twitch for Open Championship Series

As if Rocket League couldn’t get any more exciting, Twitch has agreed to partner up with developer Psyonix for the upcoming Rocket League Championship Series.

The premiering Rocket League Championship Series opens registration on March 25th.  The competition will consist of a three-month season where gamers can challenge each other head-to-head. Over the course of three months, the top four teams from both Europe and North America will be decided to attend a live international finals event with a finishing prize totaling $55,000.

Rocket League has gained an undeniably strong multiplayer following since its release back in July. During a podcast last month with Larry Hryb, Jeremy Dunham, Vice President at Psyonix Studios, even expressed his support of Rocket League as an eSport possibility. He said, “We never went into it with the intention of specifically saying we’re going to be a successful eSport … And by our third day of release, people were already playing the game and broadcasting on Twitch.”

To add to all of this, in a recent statement, Dunham stated that Twitch was an “instrumental part” of Rocket League’s success and that he is excited at future eSports possibilities.

Rocket League Release Date Confirmed for Xbox One

Rocket League is finally getting an Xbox One release after PS4 and PC, and it’s not that far off. The game, developed by Psyonix and featuring an interesting take on soccer utilizing cars as players, will be seeing an Xbox One release next Wednesday on the 17th.

When Rocket League arrives on Xbox One, it’ll offer up all of the DLC available on the PlayStation 4 and PC versions of the game for the initial $19.99 price tag along with some exclusives. What exclusives? According to the press release, those who pick up the Xbox One version of the game will have access to a number of exclusives including antennas, wheels, and rocket trails. Nothing out of the ordinary, but still pretty cool for those that are looking to play the game on the Xbox One.

The PlayStation 4 and PC have likewise received exclusives, perhaps most notably the character Sweet Tooth from the Twisted Metal franchise. It’s become increasingly popular for indie developers to include characters and items from other series as a token of appreciation, and it’s great to see the same thing happening in Rocket League, even if it is limited to the occasional decoration.

As previously confirmed, the Xbox One version of the game will come with two exclusive vehicles, the HogSticker, which is a different take on the Warthog from the Halo universe, and the Armadillo from Gears of War. Pretty cool! Rocket League was one of our favorite games of 2015, so we’re pretty excited that more people will be able to play it soon. Psyonix really deserves the success with this one!

Psyonix Details Upcoming Rocket League Patch, Season 2 Changes

With such a high skill ceiling, Rocket League has become quite a hit with the eSports community. With such a competitive following, it’s no surprise that another ranked season is on the way.

Of course, like any competitive game worth its salt, Rocket League will see some changes moving into season 2. In anticipation of the new season and an upcoming patch that will be on the way next month, Psyonix took to their forums to talk about what’s in store.

According to the post, the focus of season 2 will be improving the matchmaking system to ultimately ensure that ranks are distributed the way that they should be, with less importance given to individual losses and wins.

Primary changes include renaming ranked play to “competitive matchmaking,” removing rank points, and replacing the season 1 divisions with 12 new ones, starting from Prospect I and going all the way to Champion. In the update on their forums, Pysonix have included an image detailing the new ranks.

Season-2-Division-Titles

Unfortunately, with the changes to ranks, that means you’ll have to do some placement matches going into season 2. Don’t fret, though. Your rank in season 2 will be “heavily influenced” by your rank in season 1. Promotion and demotion will also work differently in season 2. Now your rank will rise along with your skill consistent, which presumably works

scoreboard

Finally, the number of players in the top division will no longer be hard capped. As long as you meet the skill requirement, you will be placed there. Season 2 will also retain the top 100 with leaderboards based on skill rating.

In case you missed it, Psyonix have also detailed the rewards for season 1 of ranked play. The rewards are crowns based on your ranking, so if you got a silver rank, you’ll be receiving a silver crown.

Sounds like Rocket League is just going to get better moving into season 2. Will you be testing your skill this time around? Let us know in the comments.
